Regenerative Thyroid Research

Image
Hope for Regenerative Thyroid Treatment?           In the lab (animal models and preclinical human-cell work) researchers have made functional thyroid tissue and transplantable “ organoids ,” and there’s active tissue-engineering and immunotherapy research aimed at keeping a person’s own thyroid or restoring its function. But clinical (human) thyroid transplants are not yet a routine treatment — most work so far is preclinical and faces important hurdles ( autoimmunity , long-term survival, safety, regulatory testing ).  Below is a concise, plain-English summary of the most promising research directions and the current limitations. What researchers are trying now (promising lines) 1. Stem-cell derived thyroid follicles / organoids Labs can convert embryonic or induced pluripotent stem cells into thyroid-follicle cells (usually by inducing thyroid transcription factors such as NKX2-1 and PAX8 ), grow 3-D follicles that produce thyroid hormone , ...

Ultimate Hashimoto's Guide

Image
I have been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis/Hypothyroidism autoimmune disease since 2021 and have documented my experiences (as well as others' experiences) of living with this disease. The extremities can vary person to person but at worst it can be absolute hell. Who would've thought a tiny gland in the neck can wreak havoc on a persons weight, hormones, mood, energy levels, liver, intestines, colon and more with systemic inflammation and joint pain! Also it's common to develop comorbidities (meaning more than one disease!)  As bad as it CAN be, there are a few things that we can try to help alleviate a few of the symptoms that hinder our lives. Please share this page with anyone suffering from Hashimoto's Disease and their families who struggle to understand our experiences!  Watch FULL PLAYLIST

My Dad Has Cancer

Image
Today was my dad's 59th birthday and he received terrible news from his urologist before his party. He has prostate cancer. After supper and a game of Mad Gab with the family, he pulled my brother and I aside into my grandma's bedroom to break the news. I didn't get the "finer details" or know what stage it's in because unfortunately he's not the most medical savy but he said his doctor said it's 9 out of 10 bad. I tried my best to keep it together but am still choked up and crying as I'm writing this now. My dad's been one of my best friends in this life and I can't imagine my world without him. I can't stop asking why it can't be me. My body is already fucked with disease and spine debilitations, why couldn't I just be the one to take this too? My dad doesn't deserve it. He's a better man than me and worked too hard his whole life to get cancer as soon as he "retired" after his back surgery. I feel as though...

Hopeless Hashi Poem

Image
I Know | A Hopeless Hashi Poem by Nickolas Robison A potential cause of Hashimotos is extreme stress the experts say. Could I ask for a remedy, if I may?  They look confused and shake their heads and tell me I'll take life-long medicine instead. So I wait and wait week after week losing my hair feeling fatigue. My stomach stops churning Joints popping and burning Nothing provides me relief. Feeling distrust, Every endo a bust. And nobody knows.. But I know. I know. I shiver and shake  Dry skin starts to flake. Nothing feels healing This disease keeps on stealing My body and soul to forsake. Tortuous pains that followed for months The boundaries of suicide my mind confronts How long must I endure this cycle of pain?! Declining health leashes me like a ball and chain. Pleading with the doctors to run more tests. They laugh, grumble, refuse, and jest.  Dismissing the severity because of my gender. How could someone so "young" and masculine be so tender?  If only I could...

Vitamins and BK Chicken Nuggets

Image
Living on Vitamin Supplements and Burger King Chicken Nuggets Ever since developing comorbidities, my health challenges have caused a disease even more disasterous than my immune disorders: poverty. All dark jokes aside, this past year has been a continued challenge to stabilize my health, and maintain enough nutrients when I've been experiencing continued health problems that hinder me from working "normal" jobs. That said, I've been "hyper-fixated" on optimizing my health, pushing doctors to test for deficiencies, eating healthy meals, and taking supporting supplements.  A huge issue my autoimmune disorder has caused is partial intestinal paralysis, or a variation of slow gut motility. That was making it difficult to eat ENOUGH meals during the day. Not only have I tried OTC laxatives and a high fiber diet, but also acupuncture, massage, and a few supportive supplements. While manually massaging my abdomen does assist bowel movement throughout the area wh...
